Buy Golden Heavy Body Acrylic Paints
Rich in colour and with a smooth and ‘buttery’ consistency, Golden Paint’s series of Heavy Body Acrylics are a high-quality acrylic paint for professional artists. Bridging the gap between acrylic and oil paints, Golden Paints Heavy Body Acrylics retain brush strokes, and also mix well with mediums and gels, making them a fabulous acrylic option for achieving that gorgeous impasto style.
Here are some of the unique properties that make Golden Acrylic’s series of Heavy Body Paints such a popular choice amongst professional artists.
Texture and Viscosity
Known for their smooth and buttery consistency, Golden Paints Heavy Body Acrylics boast the unique ability to ‘stand up’, retaining brush strokes and palette knife marks on the canvas. This means that when you’re working with this paint, you’re not just working with colour, you’re working with texture too!
Another unusual property of the Heavy Body range is that as you stir it, the paint will begin to lose viscosity and will start feeling much thinner. The faster you move the paint, the thinner it’ll feel. But when left in a state of rest, the paint will again be returned to its regular viscosity. This makes Heavy Body Acrylics easier to work with, as it won’t feel as though you’re painting with ‘sludge’.
Colours
Golden acrylics offer a huge range of pure pigments in a 100% acrylic emulsion. Containing no fillers, extenders, opacifiers, toners, or dyes, you know you’re getting value for money in every tube.
Offering fabulous permanency and lightfastness, these paints contain no matting agents, so you may notice some variance in gloss between colours.
Film Flexibility
Remaining flexible when dry, Golden Heavy Body Acrylics are designed not to crack or degrade over time, and are specifically formulated to withstand the stress and strain that may occur during shipping, or as a result of changing temperatures and humidity.
It’s important to note that even high quality acrylics begin to harden below 15° Celsius, so please take care when transporting a painted canvas in cold conditions.
Mixing with Mediums and Gels
Heavy Body Acrylic can be mixed with other Golden mediums and gels, so you may wish to experiment to see what kinds of effects you can achieve with your paint. Mixing gels in, for example, may increase the body and enhance peaks in your work. This is something you might want to play with when experimenting with impasto techniques.
As an acrylic paint, you can also mix Heavy Body Acrylic with water in order to thin out the paints for use in your underpainting. Please note that water tends to ‘flatten out’ paint and can impact its binding capabilities.
Can You Mix Heavy Body Acrylics with Other Paints?
There’s usually no problem mixing different paint lines. In fact, by experimenting with different lines, you may be able to achieve results that you could never have achieved using just a single type of paint.
It’s important to remember when mixing two paint lines that the resulting mixture will be a combination of the characteristics of each brand. For example, mixing a heavy body paint with a fluid paint would result in a paint with a consistency that’s somewhere between the two.
In some rare instances, the chemical composition of different brands of acrylic paint may interact with one another, potentially resulting in a lumpy or unusual texture. It’s best to test a small amount of paint before mixing too much to prevent wastage of incompatible paints.
