Mod Podge Uses
Mod Podge is a bit of a miracle product when it comes to art and craft. It can be used as a glue to stick items onto other items, such as paper and fabric onto wood and tin. It can also be used as a sealer or varnish that is applied over the top of your finished work to protect it from dust and the elements, as well as give it a matte, gloss, glitter or satin finish.
How To Use Mod Podge
Mod Podge can be applied using a number of applicator tools, but one of the most common methods is to use a paintbrush with Taklon bristles. This soft brush will apply the product to many hard and soft surfaces with an even layer and give you the least amount of brushstrokes.
Shop our Mod Podge Brush Set which comes with one 2.5cm brush and a 5cm brush for covering wide areas.
Mod Podge Sealer and Glue
Mod Podge is a fantastic water-base sealer and glue that can be used to not only stick items onto surfaces, but seal them to protect from dust, fingerprints and the elements. It's also non-yellowing and will prevent decoupage paper from discolouring over time.
Glue porous materials such as fabric and paper onto surfaces such as wood, glass and tin, before applying multiple layers of the same product over the top to finish and stop it from peeling, cracking and becoming stained.
Matte Or Gloss?
When giving the final touch to your art and craft project, you'll have the option to decide whether you want a matte or gloss finish. A matte finish will give your work a smooth appearance that is flat and deflects the light. A gloss finish will add a brilliant shine to your work which will make it eye-catching under the sun and artificial lights.
We sell different types of matte and gloss Mod Podge finishes. Get a rustic, time-worn look with our Plaid Mod Podge in Antique Matte or easily protect your work with the Mod Podge Ultra Matte spray that resist dust and fingerprints.
The Mod Podge Paper Gloss Finish is perfect for gluing and sealing your paper craft projects or use the Super Thick Gloss to give your work a hard, glassy finish with a gorgeous shine.
Different Types Of Mod Podge
This wonder product comes in an exciting range of formulas to help you achieve the look and feel you want for your project. All can glue, seal and finish your work - but the one you use will depend on your individual preferences.
We've got regular Mod Podge Matte and Gloss Finish to add shine or take it away. There's Extreme Glitter and Mega Glitter mediums to add sparkle, Antique Mod Podge for a vintage aesthetic, Dishwasher Safe and Mod Podge Outdoor that are water-resistant, as well as Hard Coat for decoupage furniture projects with a satin finish.
We've also got Dimensional Magic to add texture, image transfer mediums for photos and Mod Podge Wash Out Kids Glue for all of your kids crafts projects that's non-toxic and washable.
Is Mod Podge Waterproof?
Regular Mod Podge can withstand a bit of water but can't be fully submerged safely. To use in washers and dishwashers, you'll need a special formula, such as our Dishwasher Safe Mod Podge which can be used for glass and ceramics to make them more durable or Outdoor Mod Podge which is highly water-resistant and can protect outdoor craft projects from the rain.
Surfaces To Work On
Mod Podge works on many different surfaces as both a glue and a sealer. Most commonly, it's used in decoupage to adhere paper to hard surfaces such as wood or glass. However, there are many other porous and nonporous surfaces you can work with, including:
1. Fabric
2. Wood
3. Glass
4. Ceramic
5. Tin
6. Paper
7. Tissue Paper

1. Apply a thin layer of Mod Podge to the back of each piece and to the surface you're applying it to with a paint brush
2. Stick down and immediately smooth to remove bubbles
3. Once all pieces are glued, let dry for 20 minutes, then brush more Mod Podge over the top to seal it and give it your desired finish. Repeat if needed.
