Buy STEM/STEAM Kits for Kids in Australia
In a world rapidly growing more reliant on science, robotics, and artificial intelligence, the young minds of today need to be ready for the advanced world of tomorrow. STEM education aims to prepare children for this exciting new future by fostering a love of learning and discovery, and a passion for science, maths, engineering, and technology.
But STEM topics can be difficult for young minds to grasp. That’s why introducing your child to STEM kits and fun science activities can help make science easier to understand through play, exploration, and creativity.
What is STEM for Kids?
STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. It aims to helps children grasp the basic concepts in these four key areas, giving children real-world skills that will allow them to become leaders in the technological future.
Recently, the letter ‘A’ has been added to the acronym, representing the arts.
What is the Difference Between STEM and STEAM?
STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics. The addition of the ‘A’ is all about incorporating creative thinking, and applying knowledge of the arts to real-world situations. The arts include humanities, language, dance, drama, music, visual arts, design, and new media.
While the acronym STEM is still the more commonly used of the two, and many believe that creativity and the arts are a natural part of STEM (rendering the ‘A’ redundant), we feel that there’s no harm in emphasising this important aspect of education. After all, many children learn through play and creativity, and knowledge of the arts can help kids develop in many important areas, including:
- Problem solving
- Writing
- Creativity
- Teamwork
- Independent thinking
- Initiative
- Communication
- Digital literacy
- Critical Analysis
Studies have also found that participating in the Arts can have an enormous positive impact on academic performance, social skills, self-esteem, and overall wellbeing.
When Should a Child’s STEAM Education Begin?
The first five years of your child’s life are a time of exceptional learning and development. This is when your child’s brain is like a sponge, sucking up as much information and knowledge as possible. That’s why STEAM-based learning can successfully begin as early as two years of age.
Activities involving building blocks, brain teasers, mirrors, shadow play, and bubbles are all an excellent place to start strengthening your child’s understanding of the world. As your child gets older, you can begin increasing the challenge and complexity of these STEAM activities.
At the age of 6, many children are ready to start exploring our STEM and STEAM education kits.
What STEM/STEAM Kit Should You Buy?
Different STEM/STEAM kits are targeted at different topic and types of learning. Which kit is most appropriate for your child will depend on their level of maturity, their interests, and what concepts you’re trying to teach.
Below is a list of core STEAM concepts, and which of our kits are targeted to those areas of learning. All our science kits for kids come with a recommended age range to ensure that you’re supplying your children with an age-appropriate activity.
Mechanical Engineering Kits
Our Solar Rover, Wind Generator, and Bubble Machine STEM kits are all specifically targeted at teaching the basics of mechanical engineering for kids.
Electronics Kits
Going hand-in-hand with mechanical engineering, electronic kits for kids often involve creating circuits and working with batteries, which can help teach the fundamentals of electronics. Our electronic STEAM kits include a Table Lamp kit, Merry-Go-Round, and a Battery Powered Car.
Chemistry Kits
Science experiments that involve chemical reactions are an excellent way of teaching chemistry for kids through play. Some of our most popular STEAM science experiments include our Bath Bomb, Volcano, Perfume, and Colour Lab sets.
If your child is looking for a little more freedom to experiment, they may prefer this Chemistry STEAM Science Kit for kids.
Physics Kits
STEAM kits can help make science and physics easier for young minds to understand. For example, this Newton’s Cradle kit helps to demonstrate Newton’s third law of motion and the principle of conservation of motion.
